NEW YORK, NY: Vital City, a new journal dedicated to improving the lives of New Yorkers and people in cities everywhere, seeks to publish the best original writing on local policy, politics, neighborhood life and culture. We welcome contributions from established and new voices — writers, practitioners, academics and anyone with compelling experience in the city — related to public safety, justice, zoning, economics, education, mental health, public spaces, the arts and more.

Submissions — which could appear online, in a quarterly print edition or both — can include compelling new proposals; well-reasoned, civil arguments about solving common problems; cultural criticism; original social science research; personal narratives illuminating larger issues; dynamic data stories about all aspects of city living; photography, and potentially multimedia presentations. Bonus points for contributions that relate to current events, but that is not a prerequisite.

Please send succinct pitches including the idea, the writer’s credentials and links to previous work to Josh Greenman, jgreenman@vitalcitynyc.org. If approved, pieces will range in length from 800 words to 2,000 words.
